The 2026 Barts Health Heroes Awards

The 2026 Barts Health Heroes Awards was held on the 11th February at the Brewery in central London.

The ceremony celebrated staff and teams across Barts Health NHS Trust who go above and beyond in patient care, innovation, leadership, service improvement, equity and teamwork.

One of our Advisory Board Members, Leo Conrad D’Souza, attended the Barts Health Heroes Awards 2026 ceremony where colleagues, patients and partners gathered to celebrate inspirational achievements spanning direct patient care, leadership and community impact.

After attending the event, Leo told us how he was "struck by how many of the awards recognised not just clinical excellence, but humanity: colleagues going the extra mile for patients, and staff supporting one another behind the scenes" and left the ceremony reminded of how "the real heroes are the people who show up every day with commitment and heart”.

There were three winners from The Royal London Hospital, Tower Hamlets.

Sabrina Mubiru, Patient Experience & Quality Lead Midwife, won the People's choice individual award. She was celebrated for transforming equity and cultural safety in maternity care, including innovative translation tools.

The Emergency Department (A&E) won the Patient's choice team award. They were recognised for extraordinary compassion, including creating a dignified wedding for a palliative patient awaiting hospice care.

Dr Anup Kage, Consultant Neonatologist, won the Fundraising Champion award during the Barts Charity Awards segment of the evening. He was acknowledged for outstanding fundraising efforts, leadership in charitable activities and support of Barts Charity initiatives that benefit patients and staff alike.

After his win, Dr Kage left us with some important words: “Fundraising often happens quietly in the background, so it is especially meaningful to see it recognised. It reflects the generosity and compassion that run throughout our organisation”.

There were an additional three nominations from The Royal London Hospital including Parween Khodabaccus, emergency department receptionist. She was nominated for the bravery she showed whilst encouraging an armed individual to surrender their weapon during a critical incident in ED, allowing urgent treatment to continue without delay.
